Bloomberg Bio – add one Marital status:Single Parents:Robert and Edith Becker Parents’ involvement with horses:Father worked at a barn in Medford, Mass as a child and mother used to ride a little when she was a child in England. Who inspires you in the sport:Laura Kraut and Candice King for being able to work hard and to be successful in this sport while still having children and being good mothers. It is hard enough to be a successful rider or a good mother, but they manage to do both. They have shown me that I don’t have to pick between my dream of success with the horses and my dream of having a family. I can do both. Also, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum because she set her sights on being number one and went out and got it. She didn’t let her circumstances like her size or gender discourage her and proved all doubters wrong. Favorite movies/movie stars: Empire Records, Big Fish, One Fine Day, League Of Their Own/George Clooney Favorite music/musicians: Rob Thomas, Dixie Chicks. I listen to all kinds of music Favorite food:cereal, ice cream and turkey Hobbies: a little painting and drawing, and following sports Most embarrassing moment: I was competing at the Garden State Horse Show in the large ponies and lost control of my pony and he jumped out of the ring and into another ring. All of the older kids were competing in that ring and they all stopped and stared in disbelief. Then, I had to trot out of the ring and, of course, the entrance was all the way on the other end. Everyone was watching. How do you relax? I stay busy. I don’t like to not have anything to do. I find it more stressful than being busy. The night before I show, I like to play pool for an hour to relax. Profession other than rider i.e. trainer, dealer: Student at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study Trainer: Jimmy Doyle What would you do if you were not an international show jumper:I would be a course designer and hunter judge. I would also have a showjumping magazine and a food stand at all horse shows. I would also be chef d’equipe of the Zone 2 Young Rider team and have a program for the development of young US riders that would give them a chance to compete overseas. If I did not have anything to do with horses, I would be a fashion designer. Who inspired you to become a show jumper:Jimmy Doyle because he showed me what this sport is all about and that I can succeed in it. Advice to children who aspire to follow in your footsteps:Work hard and don’t let anyone or anything discourage you. Determination and hard work are the two most important things in succeeding. Involvement in charitable/philanthropic causes: Board member of the Equestrian AIDS Foundation. Involved with Green Chimneys, a complex in Brewster, New York that allows troubled kids to have contact with animals and to learn about animals. Also starting a program that will allow horse show people to donate the riding and show clothes to therapeutic riding programs and collegiate riding teams; program is scheduled to start in 2006. etc. First international win:1996 Stallion Class in Cean, France CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Two-time Olympic team medallist, European Champion, World Cup winner, Grand Prix Aachen, two-time Grand Prix of Calgary winner.
