Millar, an eight-time Olympian and a nine-time Pan American Games team member, is the most successful competitor in Canadian showjumping. He was first named to the national team in 1971, he is an eight-time Canadian showjumping champion and holds the North American record for grand prix and derby wins with 145. Millar is the first rider to successfully defend his World Cup titles by winning back-to-back championships in 1988 and 1989.
