Kursinski is a two-time Olympic silver medallist (1996, 1988) and she is the first American and the first woman to win the $450,000 Pulsar Crown Grand Prix in Monterrey, Mexico (1998). She began to compete in 1978 for the United States Equestrian Team and in 1983 earned an individual and team gold medal at the Pan American Games in Venezuela. In her two-decade career, she has won the American Gold Cup, the Grand Prix events in Aachen, Germany and Rome, Italy, in addition to many titles. She was named the AHSA/Hertz Equestrian of the Year in 1995 and the AHSA Horsewoman of the Year in 1992. In addition to her skills as a horsewoman, she is a published author.
