Peter
Llewellyn has been a professional photographer for over 20 years
and is married to international journalist and author, Jean Llewellyn.
During the 1980s he worked a general sports photographer covering major
events for many of the British national, daily newspapers. This period
marked the changeover from primarily black & white imagery to modern
colour technology. By the end of this decade, the majority of
'freelance' sports photographers were beginning to specialize and Peter
took the equestrian route.
With the equestrian scene focused on mainland Europe, Peter spent the
90s based centrally in France - which facilitated quick and easy access
to the majority of major international horse shows. This specialization
(not only in horses, but horse people) prompted him to establish
HorseSource - which has become one of the worlds largest photographic
agencies for equestrian images - with a historical archive dating back
to the late 1800s. A fully searchable database of images can be found
at http://www.horsesourceltd.com Peter has had cover shots on many of
the worlds international magazines and he had several exhibitions
during his years in France.
Frustration with a worsening commercial agenda in France, prompted what
he said was his "final move" to Calgary, Canada in September 1999.
Recently however this 'final move' has proven to be not quite as final
as anticipated, as, in December 2003 we moved to Vancouver Island to
continue the development of Split Seconds our wildlife and nature
photography agency.
Peter's photographic expertise has led to further diversification in
Canada. Much of his time is now spent 'in the field' photographing
North American wildlife, nature and landscapes, having established a
new photo agency - 'Split Seconds' but he is still found at many of the
worlds leading horse events.
